Our Story

In 1950, Cottage prayer meetings were held on Thursday nights to seek God’s leadership in Selma, Alabama. They called it the Elkdale Prayer Group (named after Elkdale Park where the meetings began). The group quickly realized the need for a church in North Selma.

On November 30, 1952, Elkdale Baptist Church was constituted in the First Baptist Church with 63 charter members. The following decades have seen a rich history of ministers, missionaries, musicians, and lay Christians having gone out to continue spreading the vision nurtured at Elkdale.

Through Jesus Christ and his faithfulness to our church, we have seen over 65 years of changed lives and real relationships. By his grace, we expect to see many more.
